Keys

1. Building and Office – work with Rena Carey

Some exterior doors and computer labs require 海角社区Card access which should be obtained from Mark Austin in room 208. 聽To obtain office keys or lab keys, students must complete a sign-out card for each key. 聽Cards can be obtained from Rena in Room 246. 聽Only the department chair (or designee) can approve and sign for graduate office keys. 聽The student’s faculty advisor can sign for general area keys. 聽Only owners of an office or lab may sign for those room keys. 聽Loss of keys should be reported immediately to Campus Police, the student’s advisor, and Rena Carey. 聽When you graduate or leave the program, all keys must be returned in person.

2. Pole Barn and Deer Pen Day Use – work with Molly Langlais-Parker or Katherine Goodine

If you require access to the Pole Barn or the Deer Pen, there are keys available from Molly or Katherine in Room 210 that you can borrow. If needed, your advisor may grant you permission to obtain your own key. Please see Rena to obtain a key sign-out card and keys.

Mailboxes

Each graduate student is provided with a box located in the Photocopier Room, Room 248, Nutting Hall. The mailboxes are arranged in alphabetical order by last name. The mail comes in to Nutting Hall around noon time and is distributed to the individual mailboxes shortly after. Outgoing mail can be left in the slot marked 鈥渙utgoing mail鈥 and it will be taken to the mail drop off around 11:00 am each day.

The mailboxes may get re-arranged at the beginning of each new semester if we have incoming students.聽 Please be sure to check the name under the slot before grabbing the mail!

Office and Desk Space

It is the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Conservation Biology鈥檚 policy to assign each postdoctoral associate and graduate student advised or co-advised by a department faculty member an individual desk space.

The department currently has four graduate student offices in Nutting Hall: Rooms 101, 202, 212, 220, and 232A. The Department currently has an office dedicated for two postdoctoral associates on the first floor.

All space assignments will be made by the department chair and no changes in office allocation will be made without prior authorization. There will be chances to request a move in desk space or a graduate student offices at least once a year. Students should not leave valuables unattended in their desk space.

Photocopying/Printing/Scanning

Building-Wide Machine | Poster Printing | Small Office Printers

Building-Wide Xerox Machine

There is a large color copier/scanner/printer located in Room 248, Nutting Hall. 聽You will need your 海角社区Card or your 海角社区Street login information to access the copier.

This machine has the capability to scan documents in color or black and white and have the document sent to you via email. 聽These scans can be sent as .jpg, .pdf, or .tiff.

The University of 海角社区 System (UMS) Xerox copiers come with a managed printing solution called Papercut. Below are some important items that you should know regarding using them.

  • You鈥檒l need to use your Mobile 海角社区 card or 海角社区Street login to release all your print jobs at the Xerox copier. 聽Please ensure your 海角社区 Card is updated and provides Tap support as the Xerox devices will not support Swipe.
  • 鈥 You can manage your new Papercut account, request refunds, and more using the Papercut Web Portal.

At the Copier

  1. Visit a Xerox copier and Tap your 海角社区Card, a registered Mobile Credential device, or login using your 海角社区Street login credentials.
  2. You should see three options 鈥 Print Release, Access Device, and Scan.
  3. Print Release is how you would print items you sent to the printer from your computer.聽 Access Device is how you would make photocopies, and Scan is self-explanatory.
  4. Use the screen to adjust additional settings or change which account is charged.

There are three distinct departments for expense allocation, and you should see at least one of them:

  1. Faculty and Staff
    • This category includes all faculty and staff members across the campus
    • UMS05\UM Employee Print & Copy (5000156-00-58401-xxxxxxx)
  2. Student Employees
    • This designation applies to undergraduate and graduate students employed by the University or its various units
    • UMS05\UM Student Employee Print & Copy (5000156-00-58402-xxxxxxx)
  3. Research
    • Reserved for staff or students who receive full or partial compensation from soft-funded research projects
    • UMS05\UM Research Print & Copy (5000156-00-58403-xxxxxxx)
  • While most users will see only one additional department added, a few employees may have multiple departments added based on their roles and responsibilities, particularly concerning grants and contracts.
    • Research should only be selected for printing costs related to grants or contracts.
    • Otherwise, for all other printing expenses, either UM Employee Print & Copy or UM Student Employee Print & Copy should be selected.

Report any problems to the Wildlife staff in Room 210. The copier paper in Room 248 is only for use in that copier. If you need copy paper for some purpose, please contact you advisor.

Shipping a Package

If you are sending something out for official University Business, you must have a request form that includes the delivery address, the weight of the package, the chartfield(s), and a signature. If you only have a PO Box for the recipient, you can only use US Postal Service.

1. US POSTAL SERVICE

The University of 海角社区 mail room uses a barcode label for its billing system. Package up your shipment and give to Molly with the signed request form. A barcode label will be printed and applied to the package. If the package is large, you may be required to deliver it to the mail room, otherwise it will be put down in the outgoing mail box. The mail room will apply the correct postage, mail out the package, and charge your account for the postage. If you want to insure or track the package, you would have to put a note on the package with instructions for the mail room.

2. UPS

The Department has a UPS account that offers a discount and we can call for a pick up. We have per-printed supplies in room 210 with a tracking number.聽 As long as you call by 3:30 pm, they will pick up any package the same day you call. They are reasonably priced, they provide a tracking number, and you can ask for a signature upon delivery.聽 Again, you must have a request form – make sure you give Katherine a copy of the shipping label attached to the signed request form.聽 If you have a UPS Air Letter or Pak, there is a drop box located outside of the Memorial Gymnasium that gets picked up at 4:30 pm Monday-Friday so we do not have to call for a pickup.

3.聽 FEDEX

The University of 海角社区 has a discount program with FedEx. We have pre-printed supplies in room 210 with a tracking number.聽 FedEx picks up Express Packages at the University mail room every afternoon.聽 If the package is rather small (about the size of a paper box), you can put a FedEx shipping label on it and put the box with the outgoing mail. Make sure you give Katherine a copy of the shipping label attached to the signed request form.

If you miss the daily mail pickup at around 11:15 am, you can take it to the mail room before 3:00 pm or we can call FedEx for a pick up. We must call before 3:00 pm. If the package is to go FedEx Ground, we must call for a pick up and they will not come until the next day. If you have a Next Day Air envelope, there is one drop box outside of the Memorial Gymnasium that gets picked up at 4:30 pm Monday-Friday.

Telephone

Each graduate office has a shared telephone; please decide among fellow office mates proper telephone procedures.

You need to dial an 8 to call off campus.

1. On Campus Calls dial 1 + 4 digit extension (1.xxxx)
2. IN-State Calls dial 8 + 7 digit number (8+xxx.xxxx)
3. OUT-of-State dial 8 + 1 + area code + 7 digit number (8+1+xxx.xxx.xxxx)
