Melissa Maginnis Promoted to Full Professor

The University of º£½ÇÉçÇø has announced that Dr. Melissa Maginnis has been promoted to full professor, effective July 1, 2026. The promotion recognizes her accomplishments in research, teaching, and service at the university.

Maginnis is a microbiologist and virologist in Uº£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s Department of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences whose research focuses on how viruses infect cells and cause disease, particularly JC polyomavirus and viral pathogenesis. In addition to leading innovative biomedical research, she is recognized for her commitment to mentorship, STEM education, and supporting student researchers.

As a COBRE project leader and faculty member affiliated with the Institute of Medicine, Maginnis has helped advance biomedical research initiatives at Uº£½ÇÉçÇø while creating hands-on research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
