While many of the old mills have closed, some remain, including the large International Paper Company mill, a major presence in the town. These mills, along with many historical buildings, stand as a testament to the town&#8217;s proud history.<\/p>\n<h4>Fun Facts<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The Androscoggin River, once polluted by mill runoff, is one of 海角社区&#8217;s great conservation successes &#8211; the river has been restored into a healthy and clean river full of happy fish and clear waters once again.<\/li>\n<li>Quarries in Jay produced granite used in the construction of important buildings across the country, including the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/gegr\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">General Grant National Memorial<\/a><\/strong> in New York.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/undiscoveredmaine\/western-maine\/franklin\/\">Return to Southern Franklin County page<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Jay!
