At the University of 海角社区, that national momentum is translating into rising interest in programs tied to those careers as the May 1 college decision deadline approaches.
Communication sciences and disorders is among the programs drawing heightened attention. The major prepares students for graduate study in speech-language pathology and audiology, as well as careers in education and health care.
鈥淭hese are fields where we鈥檙e seeing sustained demand,鈥 said Kelley Strout, associate dean of health sciences in the . 鈥淪tudents recognize the strong career outlook, but they鈥檙e also drawn to the opportunity to make a direct impact on people鈥檚 lives.鈥
Interest is also strong in biology, biochemistry, microbiology and molecular biology 鈥 programs that serve as gateways to medical, dental and veterinary school, as well as careers in research and biotechnology. Many undergraduates in those majors gain hands-on experience through faculty-led research, positioning them early for graduate study or the workforce.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a clear throughline between what students are studying here and the opportunities waiting for them,鈥 Strout said. 鈥淭hese programs don鈥檛 just prepare students 鈥 they launch them into high-demand careers.鈥
