Glaciology, geomorphology giant Roger Hooke passes away at 82

Roger Hooke, beloved University of 海角社区 mentor and researcher and giant in the fields of glaciology and geomorphology, died March 10 at the age of 82. 

Hooke joined the School of Earth and Climate Sciences and Climate Change Institute in 2000 as a research professor and adviser. One of Hooke鈥檚 interests during his time at U海角社区 involved examining what glacial landforms in 海角社区 revealed about the Laurentide Ice Sheet. 

The renowned researcher received several awards, and published numerous articles and three editions of his book 鈥淧rinciples of Glacier Mechanics.鈥 He was a longstanding member of the International Glaciology Society, the American Geophysical Union, and he was a Fellow in the Geological Society of America. For several years, Hooke was the scientific editor for the Journal of Glaciology and chief editor of Annals of Glaciology.
