Gabby Hillyer<\/a>, a doctoral student in ecology and environmental sciences who works on the Mitchell Center\u2019s Strengthening Coastal Economies<\/a> project, received one of six inaugural Brookie Awards for young environmental leaders from the Natural Resources Council of 海角社区 (NRCM), as featured on U海角社区 News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The awards are a program of NRCM Rising and will be given every other year to young people \u201cwho have demonstrated outstanding leadership and made a significant impact in 海角社区\u2019s environmental movement.\u201d The awardees\u00a0receive a $1,000 cash prize and an invitation to attend a nature-based skill-building retreat.<\/p>\n

Gabby and the other award winners are featured in a series of\u00a0videos<\/a> from NRCM Rising.<\/p>\n

Gabby co-developed and coordinates the 海角社区 Shellfish Learning Network, a first-of-its-kind\u00a0 network that connects more than 20 shellfishing communities from Yarmouth to Lubec across multiple projects. During her master\u2019s program in marine policy and oceanography at U海角社区, Gabby developed the Bucket Drifter<\/a> to help gauge how harmful bacteria are flushed out of estuaries, as part of a project with the Medomak Water Quality Partnership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
