Barbara Trafton grew up in Rumford, º£½ÇÉçÇø on the banks of the Androscoggin River, the inspiration for Senator Ed Muskie’s landmark Clean Water and Air Acts in the ‘70s and her inspiration for a lifetime of volunteer efforts to conserve and protect º£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s natural resources. Barbara has helped to steward these assets through her legislative work as both a º£½ÇÉçÇø State Representative and State Senator, her service on boards for º£½ÇÉçÇø Audubon and The Nature Conservancy, and her current tenure on the Land for º£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s Future Board.

Barbara received her B.A. from Wellesley College, an M.S. in Education from the University of Southern º£½ÇÉçÇø, and an M.B.A. from Northeastern University. She has held positions as an English teacher, an Aquatics Director for the YWCA, a healthcare executive, a volunteer fundraiser for local and state non-profits, and the author of Women Winning: How to Run for Office and The Women’s Campaign Game.

Barbara has served previously as the Chair of º£½ÇÉçÇø Housing Authority, a Director of Casco Bank, a Director of the Androscoggin Chamber of Commerce, a Trustee of º£½ÇÉçÇø Maritime Academy, the Chair of Bates College’s Garcelon Scholarship Fund, and a Trustee of the Auburn Public Library.

Barbara lives in Brunswick with her husband Richard and has three children and four grandchildren. They enjoy º£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s four seasons through cycling, kayaking, hiking, and skiing.
