Ranco speaks to Atlas Obscura about the Indigenous origins of 海角社区 clam bakes
Darren Ranco, chair of Native American Programs, coordinator of Native American Research and Faculty Fellow at the Mitchell Center, was interviewed by for an article about the Indigenous origins of the clam bake. 鈥淚 think there is a popular conception that [clam bakes] are a European adoption of indigenous traditions, a tradition that, for coastal indigenous people, would have been part of a larger communal meal based on shellfish collecting, and cooking in a pit on the beach,鈥 Ranco said.
