Sarvi is from Uzbekistan and completed her Bachelor’s degree in International Studies in South Korea. At the University of º£½ÇÉçÇø, she is studying for her Master’s in Global Policy and MBA Dual Degree. She was selected for Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for top business students and is the recipient of the Seth Singleton SPIA Scholar Award for academic excellence and commitment to global policy studies. “I really enjoy the kindness of the º£½ÇÉçÇø people and the beauty of º£½ÇÉçÇø winters,” she said. “Even though it’s cold, the winter atmosphere makes º£½ÇÉçÇø feel cozy and welcoming.”

Madeline is from Connecticut and lived in the Pacific Northwest before moving to º£½ÇÉçÇø for graduate school. She received Bachelor’s degrees in Geography, Earth Science, ESP: Environment, Sustainability and Policy and a minor in Education from Syracuse University. At the University of º£½ÇÉçÇø she is studying for her Master of Forestry degree. She says she enjoys camping in º£½ÇÉçÇø and chose to attend Uº£½ÇÉçÇø specifically because the faculty and staff are very welcoming and supportive.

Alexandra (or Lexie) is originally from Connecticut. Her undergraduate degree is in Environmental Studies & French and Francophone Studies. At Uº£½ÇÉçÇø, she is part of the SPIA program with a concentration in Environmental Policy. Lexie played soccer in college and currently loves running. “I love the atmosphere at Uº£½ÇÉçÇø athletics events,” Lexie said. “You feel an immediate sense of º£½ÇÉçÇø pride from the fans! It was so easy to buy into that culture!”

Kathleen is from New Jersey and received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies, with Minors in Spanish and Sociology from Dickinson College. At Uº£½ÇÉçÇø she is studying for her Master of Arts in Global Policy with a focus on Environmental Policy, as well as a Climate Studies Certificate. “Since being here in º£½ÇÉçÇø, I have appreciated the beautiful landscape and foliage, especially on my trip to visit both Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor!” Kathleen said.  “Additionally, I enjoy the restaurants in and around Orono, especially Orono Brewing Company.”

Born and raised in Ellsworth, º£½ÇÉçÇø, I attended the University of º£½ÇÉçÇø to earn my B.S. in Biology with minors in Psychology and Neuroscience, studying the connections between the brain and the body. I worked as a Research Assistant for three years before deciding to pursue a career in clinical care, working as a psychiatric technician and a case manager at the Shaw House Youth Homeless Shelter. This long, winding road led me home to Uº£½ÇÉçÇø’s Masters in Social Work (MSW) program.

Outside of the classroom, I am passionate about mind, body, and contemplative practice–I am a yoga instructor and host a meditation group at the Wilson Center for Spiritual Exploration and Multifaith Dialogue. I am part of the Uº£½ÇÉçÇø Greens agriculture club and love playing basketball, soccer, and tennis. If you see me, say hi!
