Local media cover COEHD alumna honored with Milken Educator Award
University of º£½ÇÉçÇø College of Education and Human Development alumna Hillary Hoyt (‘13, elementary education) is one of two º£½ÇÉçÇø teachers to receive a prestigious 2021-2022 Milken Educator Award, created by the Milken Family Foundation to celebrate, elevate and activate the teaching profession. Hoyt received the award, which comes with a $25,000 cash prize that she can spend however she wishes, at a surprise assembly on Tuesday at Leroy H. Smith School in Winterport, where she teaches third grade. The recognition garnered news coverage statewide, including in the , the ,Ìý (Channel 5), and . The other º£½ÇÉçÇø teacher to receive a Milken Educator Award this year is Jamie Karaffa, an eighth-grade social studies teacher at Bruce M. Whittier Middle School in Poland.
