DESCRIPTION:The talk will be held virtually via Zoom and in-person at 107 Norman Smith Hall\, U海角社区\, Orono. \n\nVirtual attendance: Complete the registration form for Zoom connection information\n\nSpeaker: Dana Connors\, former President and CEO\, 海角社区 State Chamber of Commerce\nDana Connors is the former leader of the 海角社区鈥檚 largest and most diverse business association\, the 海角社区 State Chamber of Commerce. In this position\, he oversaw a broad range of activities including advocacy efforts\, economic development initiatives\, workforce development opportunities\, and a wide variety of member services on behalf of the state鈥檚 business community. \nConnors began his career as the city manager of Presque Isle for 16 years\, and then spent 11 years as commissioner of the 海角社区 Department of Transportation. He was president of the 海角社区 State Chamber of Commerce from 1994 until his recent retirement. \nA 海角社区 native\, Connors received a bachelor鈥檚 degree in public management from the University of 海角社区 in 1965. He was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority and the State of 海角社区 Governor鈥檚 Business Roundtable for Early Childhood Development. Other boards on which he served include the 海角社区 Economic Research Institute; 海角社区 Manufacturing Extension Partnership; and 海角社区 & Company. Additionally\, he has been a member of ReadyNation since 2009. \nConnors has received numerous awards for his service and leadership to the state of 海角社区 throughout his career. Most recently\, he was inducted into Junior Achievement鈥檚 海角社区 Business Hall of Fame (2014) and received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of 海角社区\, Orono (2015).

DESCRIPTION:4-H Youth Development Program in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties\, a part of University of 海角社区 Cooperative Extension\, will offer two\, 4-week Family STEM Club sessions this fall at the U海角社区 Extension office\, 24 Main Street in Lisbon Falls. \nFamilies will engage in hands-on STEM projects together\, with opportunities for adults to lead the activities with support from 4-H staff. Adults interested in learning how 4-H clubs operate and youth interested in joining 4-H are encouraged to attend. \nSeries 2 will be offered on Thursdays\, October 30 through November 20. All sessions will meet from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Youth must be ages 5 to 11 and a resident of Androscoggin or Sagadahoc County to participate. \nParticipation is free however space is limited. SUMMARY:Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us
DESCRIPTION:Lotus\, a 19-year-old dance student on a quest for meaning\, struggles as she witnesses the world around her falling apart.聽 On the brink of giving up on college\, she meets a mentor who introduces her to the 13.8 billion year scientific story of the Cosmos. Lotus discovers a unique capacity to see back in time prompting her to contemplate her place in the Universe. While Lotus鈥� philosophy poet peer-group cracks the code on every current issue concerning humanity\, Lotus feels the call of a reoccurring dream she has of a dark-haired woman galloping on horseback under the Milky Way. \nCreated as a collaboration between University of Colorado Boulder鈥檚 Fiske Planetarium and Colorado University鈥檚 Theater & Dance Department\, together with a local playwright Rebecca Sophia Strong\, and local musicians it is a cultural program that integrates traditional stage theater with digital planetarium imagery. \nThis artist driven project inextricably links the arts\, science and technology and is a response to the growing sense of globalized anxiety in young adults due to racism\, climate change and a lack of聽a sense of belonging 鈥� we aim to inspire聽hope and agency\nin young people. \nPerformed in at the Versant Power Astronomy Center鈥檚 Jordan Planetarium by True North Theatre on November 7\, 8\, 14 & 15. \nSpecial School show booking available on November 12 鈥� contact the planetarium for details. \nTickets are $20 each.

SUMMARY:Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us
DESCRIPTION:Lotus\, a 19-year-old dance student on a quest for meaning\, struggles as she witnesses the world around her falling apart.聽 On the brink of giving up on college\, she meets a mentor who introduces her to the 13.8 billion year scientific story of the Cosmos. Lotus discovers a unique capacity to see back in time prompting her to contemplate her place in the Universe. While Lotus鈥� philosophy poet peer-group cracks the code on every current issue concerning humanity\, Lotus feels the call of a reoccurring dream she has of a dark-haired woman galloping on horseback under the Milky Way. \nCreated as a collaboration between University of Colorado Boulder鈥檚 Fiske Planetarium and Colorado University鈥檚 Theater & Dance Department\, together with a local playwright Rebecca Sophia Strong\, and local musicians it is a cultural program that integrates traditional stage theater with digital planetarium imagery. \nThis artist driven project inextricably links the arts\, science and technology and is a response to the growing sense of globalized anxiety in young adults due to racism\, climate change and a lack of聽a sense of belonging 鈥� we aim to inspire聽hope and agency\nin young people. \nPerformed in at the Versant Power Astronomy Center鈥檚 Jordan Planetarium by True North Theatre on November 7\, 8\, 14 & 15. \nSpecial School show booking available on November 12 鈥� contact the planetarium for details. \nTickets are $20 each.
