DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how to best preserve all those fresh summer vegetables? This hands-on food preservation workshop taught by U海角社区 Extension volunteers and staff will teach you the basic steps for boiling water bath canning\, according to the latest safety recommendations from USDA. Participants will receive a Preserving the Harvest food preservation packet\, a headspace measuring tool\, and will bring home a jar of what we make. SUMMARY:Dark Side of the Moon: 50 Years in a Heartbeat
DESCRIPTION:Pink Floyd鈥檚 iconic album聽The Dark Side Of The Moon\, originally released in March 1973\, turned 50 in 2023\, and what more fitting a place to celebrate it and experience it than in a Planetarium\, through the music set to visuals? With the help of modern technology\, the idea of a show combining breath-taking views of the solar system and beyond\, played out to 42 minutes of聽The Dark Side Of The Moon聽in surround sound\, has been embraced by the band. NSC Creative have led the visual production efforts\, working closely with Pink Floyd鈥檚 long time creative collaborator Aubrey Powell from Hipgnosis. \nEach song has a different theme; some futuristically looking forward and some a retro acknowledgment to Pink Floyd鈥檚 visual history\, all relating to a time and space experience\, embracing up to the minute technology that only a Planetarium can offer. A truly immersive and all-encompassing surround sound and visual treat that will transcend reality and take you way beyond the realms of 2D experience. \nTickets are $11 for general admission. \nMusic programs may contain explicit lyrics\, and are intended for adult audiences. All music programs may contain bright flashing lights and fast-moving images\, which have been known to trigger seizures with those with photosensitive epilepsy. DESCRIPTION:What is a Master Food Preserver Volunteer?\nMaster Food Preserver Volunteers serve to extend Extension鈥檚 educational programs in food preservation to adults and youth. Master Food Preserver Volunteer serves as a resource in the community to provide the public with research-based information from the University of 海角社区 Cooperative Extension and USDA. \nDirect questions about the program to the instructor Kathy Savoie at聽ksavoie@maine.edu. \nWho is eligible to apply?\nThrough an聽application process\, any 海角社区 resident 18 years or older is eligible to take the Master Food Preserver Volunteer course. To become a Master Food Preserver Volunteer\, accepted applicants must meet the following qualifications: \n\nAttend the 8-part\, 28-hour Master Food Preserver Volunteer course including hands-on kitchen lab sessions.\nComplete lab quizzes and pass the final written exam.\nComplete at least 20 hours of volunteer service within a 12-month period.\nComplete reports on the number of public contacts made.\n\nTo learn more view the聽Master Food Preserver Volunteer Role Description\nWhat does the training cover? \nDuring the lectures\, discussions and hands-on kitchen lab experiences\, you will learn: \n\nthe latest information on food safety and food preservation;\nprevention of foodborne illness;\nfood storage and safety;\ncanning basics;\ncanning acid foods;\ncanning low-acid foods;\nfreeze drying foods;\npickled and fermented foods;\npreserving jams and jellies;\nfreezing foods; and\ndrying food products.\n\nWhat does the training cost?\n$325 per person (limited financial assistance available). \nWhat are Master Food Preserver Volunteer experiences?\nAfter completing your training\, you will have an opportunity to choose your volunteer experiences. DESCRIPTION:In the icy northern waters\, a little sea otter named Sedna spends her days playing\, fishing\, and diving with her fellow otters. Sedna dreams of travelling to distant places鈥nAnd on this day\, like every year\, she is on the lookout for Toklo\, a mercurial and wily cormorant due back from his long southward migration.
