DESCRIPTION:University of º£½ÇÉçÇø Cooperative Extension will host the third event of the annual Pasture Walk Series from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday\, July 18\, at East Forty Farm and Dairy\, 2361 Friendship Road in Waldoboro. \nThe third session in the series’ highlights the business and culinary side of sustainable grazing\, focusing heavily on value-added production. East Forty Farm showcases how high-quality forage directly transforms into premium farm products. Here\, rotational grazing supports a specialized ecosystem: milk from the dairy herd is crafted into award-winning Lakin’s Gorges Cheese\, heritage-breed pigs are raised on a specialized whey diet from the cheesemaking process and 100% grass-fed beef is ethically produced. \nParticipants will walk the pastures with Extension Forage Educator Jaime Garzon to examine how forage quality and specific plant species influence milk flavor and cheese production. The owners will be on hand to answer questions about the logistics of building an on-farm creamery\, managing swine on pasture without degrading the soil and marketing grass-fed products directly to º£½ÇÉçÇø consumers. \nThe º£½ÇÉçÇø Pasture Walk Series is free and open to all\, including both beginner and experienced farmers. SUMMARY:Dark Side of the Moon: 50 Years in a Heartbeat
DESCRIPTION:Pink Floyd’s iconic album The Dark Side Of The Moon\, originally released in March 1973\, turned 50 in 2023\, and what more fitting a place to celebrate it and experience it than in a Planetarium\, through the music set to visuals? With the help of modern technology\, the idea of a show combining breath-taking views of the solar system and beyond\, played out to 42 minutes of The Dark Side Of The Moon in surround sound\, has been embraced by the band. NSC Creative have led the visual production efforts\, working closely with Pink Floyd’s long time creative collaborator Aubrey Powell from Hipgnosis. \nEach song has a different theme; some futuristically looking forward and some a retro acknowledgment to Pink Floyd’s visual history\, all relating to a time and space experience\, embracing up to the minute technology that only a Planetarium can offer. A truly immersive and all-encompassing surround sound and visual treat that will transcend reality and take you way beyond the realms of 2D experience. \nTickets are $11 for general admission. \nMusic programs may contain explicit lyrics\, and are intended for adult audiences. All music programs may contain bright flashing lights and fast-moving images\, which have been known to trigger seizures with those with photosensitive epilepsy. SUMMARY:Kids Can Can 2026
DESCRIPTION:Blueberry jam\, pickles\, and tomato sauce—all of these foods can be made from scratch with fruits and vegetables grown in your own garden. Join Uº£½ÇÉçÇø Extension staff and volunteers in this hands-on\, interactive program that will teach kids ages 9+ how to grow and preserve the garden’s harvest. Each session will begin in the University of º£½ÇÉçÇø Cooperative Extension’s Tidewater Gardens as we harvest the fruits and vegetables needed to make jam\, pickles\, tomato sauce\, and more. Then we’ll move to the Uº£½ÇÉçÇø Regional Learning Center Demo Kitchen and prepare a batch of delicious\, preserved foods. SUMMARY:Pasture Walk Series\, Bethel
DESCRIPTION:University of º£½ÇÉçÇø Cooperative Extension will host the fourth event of the annual Pasture Walk Series from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Wednesday\, July 22\, at Morning Glory Farm\, 343 Flat Road in Bethel. \nDesigned with a focus on self-sufficiency and small-scale land management\, this fourth session in the statewide series looks at pasture systems through the lens of a sustainable homestead. Morning Glory Farm operates a highly localized\, pasture-based poultry system providing organic eggs and broilers to the Bethel community\, alongside small-scale fruit\, vegetable and dairy production. \nExtension Forage Educator Jaime Garzon will tailor this session to small-acreage management\, showing how limited acreage can be highly productive with the right rotation schedule. The farm owners will share their experiences with predator protection for pastured poultry\, building low-cost mobile coops and maximizing a diverse homestead footprint. This stop is highly recommended for backyard producers\, market gardeners and homesteaders looking to integrate livestock into their existing plots. \nThe º£½ÇÉçÇø Pasture Walk Series is free and open to all\, including both beginner and experienced farmers. Follow along with Big Bird\, Elmo and their friend from China\, Hu Hu Zhu\, as they take an imaginary trip from Sesame Street to the moon\, where they discover how different it is from Earth. They explore the day and night sky\, learn about the Big Dipper\, the North Star\, the Sun and the Moon.  Along the way\, they learn how the sky we see is shared by many people around the world. Children attending the show can interact as they watch\, drawing constellations and counting the time it takes the sun to set. \n\n  \nTickets for planetarium programs are $9 for Adults\, $8 for Uº£½ÇÉçÇø Students/Veterans/Senior Citizens\, and $7 for children under 12. SUMMARY:Growing a Cut Flower Garden in Falmouth
DESCRIPTION:Join Uº£½ÇÉçÇø Extension staff and volunteers for an engaging workshop on growing a cut flower garden. Whether you’re new to flower gardening or looking to expand your garden\, this workshop will introduce techniques for growing beautiful\, productive blooms throughout the season. \nIn this interactive class\, you’ll learn how to choose flower varieties for continuous blooms and a variety of uses\, plan and plant your garden\, and care for it throughout the season. We’ll explore succession planting\, garden design considerations\, and tips for maintaining healthy and productive plants\, while highlighting flowers that grow well in º£½ÇÉçÇø gardens. \nParticipants will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience to confidently grow and maintain a thriving cut flower garden at home. This workshop will take place at the Uº£½ÇÉçÇø Gardens at Tidewater Farm\, 200 Presumpscot Point Rd\, Falmouth\, ME 04105. Registration is required and the program fee is $20 per person.
