In application\, it is extremely difficult or impossible to generate analytical solutions\, making the design and analysis of numerical methods essential. Numerical methods give approximate solutions and there are many questions to consider when thinking about what a 鈥済ood鈥 method is and what it means to be a 鈥済ood鈥 numerical solution. Are the theoretical properties of the continuous problem preserved on the discrete level? Does the numerical solution satisfy the underlying physical laws? Does the method converge\, and if so\, how quickly? In this talk\, we will focus on PDEs arising from applications in electromagnetics problems (Maxwell鈥檚 equations)\, and explore some answers to these questions using mixed finite element methods. \nRefreshments at 3:00\, Talk 3:15-4:15pm URL:/calendar/event/math-colloquium-finite-element-methods-for-problems-in-electromagnetics/ LOCATION:Hill Auditorium\, Engineering Science Research Building\, University of 海角社区\, Orono\, ME\, 04469-5708\, United States CATEGORIES:Conferences & Workshops,Lectures & Seminars GEO:44.897732;-68.6687076 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Hill Auditorium Engineering Science Research Building University of 海角社区 Orono ME 04469-5708 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=University of 海角社区:geo:-68.6687076,44.897732 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20260129T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20260129T130000 DTSTAMP:20260630T204036 CREATED:20250917T170557Z LAST-MODIFIED:20250917T170557Z UID:10003302-1769688000-1769691600@umaine.edu SUMMARY:Spanish Table DESCRIPTION:Spanish Table is a conversation gathering open to all members of the University of 海角社区 and the community interested in improving their Spanish conversation.
