SUMMARY:Exhibition: "The Teaching Portfolio: 45 years of Printmaking at the University of 海角社区"
DESCRIPTION:The Department of聽Art鈥檚 Lord Hall Gallery will host the exhibition The Teaching Portfolio: 45 Years of Printmaking at the University of 海角社区 from August 27-October 24\, 2025. A public reception will take place on September 26th from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. \nThe Teaching Portfolio is a collection of fine聽art working proofs and finished prints created in the U海角社区 printmaking studio by students\, alumni\, faculty\, and visiting artists. Covering a time span of 45 years\, under the direction of printmaking Professor Susan Groce\, this portfolio represents an impressive overview of the direction and growth of print media and the University of 海角社区 printmaking studio program 鈥� from traditional materials and processes to the safer and greener processes and the incorporation of new technologies. The portfolio includes Collagraphs\, Etchings and Acrylic Resist Etchings\, Photopolymer Intaglio-Type Etchings\, Lithography\, Relief Printing\, Water-Based Screen Printing\, and Monoprints\, as well as prints made through the Printmaking Artist Residency Program and Student Portfolio Exchanges. DESCRIPTION:Fermentation Friday takes place at the University of 海角社区 in Orono. During Fermentation Friday\, held at the U海角社区 Food Lab in Hitchner Hall\, participants cook\, create\, share\, and connect. Using recipes as starting points\, we explore fermentation\, storytelling\, food rescue\, and local food systems. Over the past four semesters\, we have hosted authors and chefs who have enriched our sessions with their expertise. \nFor Fall 2025\, we have an exciting lineup of sessions planned: \nOctober 24 鈥� All Hallowed Bagels & Spooky Spreads\nNovember 7 鈥� Cozy Drinks & Cookies\nNovember 21 鈥� Fermented Fixin鈥檚\nDecember 5 鈥� Festive Ferments \nAt the heart of the Fermentation Friday program is a commitment to foster deep connections. We strive to provide hands-on experiences that empower individuals to ferment and share stories while learning through observation\, exploration\, and reflection on our human relationship with microbes. \nFermentation Friday 鈥媔鈥媠 a cross-disciplinary space\, and it is our hope that it will 鈥嬧�媠park curiosity in 鈥媡he exciting emerging sciences that depart from our understanding of fermentation processes鈥�.

DESCRIPTION:From the journey of protons racing through the world鈥檚 largest particle collider to up-close views of the Big Bang and emergent universe\, and the nearly mile-deep descent to an underground experiment\,聽Phantom of the Universe聽immerses audiences in the search for dark matter.聽Explore this mysterious matter and how we are using discoveries at the Large Hadron Collider to get closer to discovering the true nature of Dark Matter. View the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky\, the scientist who coined the term 鈥渄ark matter.鈥� Explore the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda galaxy\, and then plummet deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth\, housed in a former gold mine. 聽Speed alongside particles before they collide in visually stunning explosions of light and sound at聽Large Hadron Collider at CERN\, while learning how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter.聽Executive Producer Michael Barnett of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory served as an advisor to PBS鈥檚 NOVA series聽Elegant Universe聽and the feature film聽Angels & Demons.
